Members of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's development management committee have approved plans to change the use of part of the town's Wimpy restaurant into an adult gaming centre. The application submitted by Mr. Frank Booth, who owns the Serendipity arcade across the road from the restaurant in Tenby's St. George Street/Church Street, has arisen solely because of a change in the gaming licensing regime brought about by the introduction of the 2005 Gambling Act. To comply with this legislation, the applicant has applied to remove the adult machines from his existing premises in Cresswell Street and for the establishment of an adult gaming centre in a part of the existing Wimpy restaurant. Tenby Town Council had expressed their concerns to National Park officers recently regarding the extension of gaming facilities of this nature within the conservation area of the town, although they had no opposition to the application on planning grounds. When discussing the matter at Wednesday morning's meeting of the development management committee, vice-chairman Clr. Michael Williams said: "Although I am uncomfortable with the extension of any gaming facilities within the town, the premises does appear to gain on a design basis. "It's something that we need to keep a close eye on and should include a condition that one side of the building cannot be redeveloped without the restaurant part as well," he added. Members agreed to approve the application in line with the recommendations of the Park's chief executive officer, Mrs. Cathy Milner.
