A brand new publication from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is likely to become a well thumbed resource in education establishments.
'Out and About in the National Park' is a bilingual publication which provides a comprehensive guide to what field-based services the National Park can offer to schools and colleges.
These range from talks - in English or Welsh - on a wide variety of subjects to field sessions and practical conservation projects.
The National Park has a number of its own sites - including Carew Castle, Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort, St. Davids Visitor Centre, woodlands and coastal areas - which are suitable for field-based activities. And its experienced education and ranger services staff, plus part-time tutors, have a wide understanding of Pembrokeshire which they are able to impart to all age groups.
National Park education officer, Steve Drinkwater, who compiled the new guide, said: "We offer an interesting mix of topics and can tailor sessions to meet the needs of individual classes or groups.
"The sessions are free of charge for Pembrokeshire schools and Pembrokeshire College and the emphasis is on enjoyment, interest and participation. Topics are closely linked with both the National Park key concepts and the National Curriculum and we hope that teachers will follow up on these when students return to their classes."
