THE Friends of Pembrokeshire National Park have recently made a donation to the Skokholm Island appeal and is also encouraging its members do the same. The Friends' chair Brian Powdrill commented that the Wildlife Trust, which has managed the island for the past 50 years, now has a unique opportunity to purchase the nature reserve which has not changed hands since 1646. "By buying the island, the Wildlife Trust will help protect the important sea bird colonies of Manx Shearwaters and Storm Petrels and keep the island safe for wildlife and people in perpetuity," he said. The Wildlife Trust needs to raise £750,000 to purchase the island which according to the Friends is a magical place remote from rough and tumble of everyday life.
