Plaid AM Nerys Evans has raised her concern regarding the financial test that is used by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to indicate the viability of a rural business for planning purposes.

The authority currently uses the requirement that all applicants from rural businesses should make a £10,000 profit per annum. This has been used as a material consideration when deciding planning applications.

Nerys Evans said: "I've raised this issue with the minister on numerous occasions as this issue needs to be seriously looked at. It is true to say that agricultural businesses that manage to make a £10,000 profit are very few and far between in these parts and that's why this requirement is unfair. Indeed, I am aware of an individual who makes far less than £10,000 profit, but has a successful business supplying vegetables and meat to local shops.

"I've asked the minister to seriously look at this requirement, as it is having a negative effect on the sustainability of our deeply rural communities."
