A plan to convert a beachside café in Tenby into six holiday rental apartments is being recommended for refusal.

The application, submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, by Mr. Joe Taylor, of Ragged Staff, Saundersfoot, is for a change of use of the North Beach Café from business premises to business and apartments for tourists.

However, members of the authority's development management committee are due to hear next Wednesday that whilst the redevelopment of the key site is welcomed in principle, the proposal raises a number of fundamental policy objections that cannot be overcome by conditions or minor changes.

It is also considered to have a detrimental impact on the special qualities of the National Park and the character and appearance of the Tenby Conservation Area and the settings of the listed buildings along The Croft.

When asked for their observations, Tenby Town Council recommended approval as members considered that the plan would enhance the area. However, members were concerned about the lack of provision of an area for storage of waste, particularly as the proposed use included a mix of cafe and holiday let accommodation.
