PEMBROKESHIRE Coast National Park Authority's presence at the County Show this year provided an opportunity to celebrate the Park's 50th anniversary.

Clr. Gordon Cawood, chairman of the authority, welcomed friends, partner organisations and colleagues, to a reception showcasing the anniversary.

As well as celebrating the past 50 years, the event also focussed upon the future challenges faced by the authority, and the need to maintain and develop the partnerships that have been formed in previous years.

Speaking at the reception, Nic Wheeler, chief executive of the authority, took the opportunity to thank those present for their continued support and assistance, and reflected upon the Park's past achievements.

He also stressed the need to learn from the past as the authority looks to the future, commenting: "It is important that we seek to preserve a park which is Pembrokeshire's, which is fit for a purpose and which we can pass on to future generations."

The authority's anniversary celebrations will continue during 2002, with a number of activities and events scheduled, including the National Park Award competition, which will begin in September.
