Children can relive the lives of some of our ancestors thanks to the National Park Authority's activities and events programme for the October half-term. At Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort and Carew Castle - both of which are run by the authority - children can dress up in period costume and take part in activities and tours around the historic sites. Holiday activities are taking place at Castell Henllys, near Newport, on Monday, October 25, Tuesday, October 26 and Friday, October 29, and at Carew Castle on Tuesday, October 26 and Thursday, October 28. Booking for these popular events is advisable - at Castell Henllys on 01239 891319 and at Carew on 01646 651782. There are other hands-on sessions - including spinning and weaving, dyeing using plants and 'Art from Nature' - at the fort, and family arts and crafts at the castle. Youngsters can also enjoy a kite-making afternoon at the Park's own Visitor Centre at The Grove, St. Davids, on Tuesday, October 26. Bookable rambles are planned on Castlemartin Range, the second of which (on Sunday, October 31) will look particularly at archaeological sites. And there is a special 'Feed the Birds Day' on Saturday, October 30, arranged with the RSPB, at St. Davids Visitor Centre, when everyone can learn all about feeding garden birds. This is a free event.
