A National Park Authority tree officer has written to Pembrokeshire County Council with concerns regarding the welfare of the horse chestnut trees on the South Parade. Mr. Matt Smail's letter was brought before Tenby town councillors at their meeting on Tuesday. Mr. Smail wrote that the authority wanted to see the trees retained and recommended pruning as a matter of urgency, with subsequent pruning every six or seven years as part of an ongoing maintenance programme. "Much of the criticism of the trees is, I feel, linked to nothing being done about them. The trees are an important landscape feature in Tenby and provide vital shade in the summer," added Mr. Smail. Town councillor Mrs. Sue Lane was happy that the matter was now finally being discussed. "This is what the town council has been asking for a long time, some kind of tree management scheme. We never asked for the trees to be cut down, just to be maintained and looked after," she stated. Clr. Mike Evans suggested that a meeting be called to enable all parties to discuss the matter.
