Michael Doyle, a parishioner of Holyrood and St. Teilo's Catholic Church, Tenby, was recently awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal for services to the church, particularly regarding his voluntary involvement as a member of the Menevia Diocese Child Protection Commission.
Following the retirement of Fr. Owen McGreal as the Menevia Diocesan child protection coordinator, a position he held for 10 years, Michael was asked by Bishop Mark Jabalé OSB to take on the role of child protection coordinator, until such time he could find a replacement for Fr. Owen.
Michael willingly agreed to do so for six months and was in post for over four years!
During that time, he took on the responsibility of setting-up child protection structures following the Nolan Report.
In proudly accepting the award, and being a team player, Michael did so on behalf of the Diocesan Child Commission members, particularly the parish child protection representatives.
Michael is a former probation officer and senior probation officer having worked for several probation areas, mainly in England, retiring after 33 years service. Michael received his award from Bishop Mark Jabalé OSB at a special Mass at Swansea Cathedral.
