On Friday, April 15, an outstanding and hugely successful Pancake Night was held at the Doghouse in Lawrenny, a function in support of Cancer Research, giving the local branch of Carew and Cresswell Quay a very welcome boost of £651 to their funds.

To raise this magnificent sum of money, many people gave their time and their skills willingly and good-humouredly.

The pancakes were being cooked from early on in the evening until very late, Billy James being the chief cook with an array of helpers. He must have been rather tired of pancakes by the end of the night and glad that the official pancake night, Shrove Tuesday, is a long way off!

Steve Adams, the landlord, was as ever a genial host, making the very large crowd most welcome and being instrumental in creating a good atmosphere.

Beavering away in the kitchen, producing rather a large quantity of pancake batter were Teresa (Steve’s wife) and her sister and a team of volunteers.

Thank you to all of you for such a wonderful team effort and for your hard work.

During the evening, a beautiful hand-crocheted cushion made by Mrs. Betty James (Billy’s lovely mum) made £50 at auction. Thank you Betty.

A large raffle was also held, with numerous prizes, far too many to go into individual winners and their bounty here, but suffice to say, many went away well pleased with their winnings!

Once again, many thanks to those who worked so hard to make the evening such a success, and to all those who came to support the work of Cancer Research and for providing such a large and generous amount of money to add to the much-needed funds in order for more research to continue.
