Sir,

I am a regular dog walker along the beaches in Saundersfoot and am utterly mystified why a very small minority of dog owners, either local or visitors, decide to leave their pet's calling card all over the beach.

I was horrified to see a group of youngsters playing rugby this week near the main beach ramp and they had to circle off a great pile beside their pitch to keep away. Who does this?

I have asked on two occasions for the owners to take their prizes home and have offered a bag free as well; the response was it's not their problem.

I read last year that there were to be more dog wardens allocated to the Pembrokeshire coast. Can anyone tell me if anyone has been prosecuted for this digusting habit? I do not blame the dog, it is the owner, and if it does not change, I am sure that one day Saundersfoot will end up like many other beaches and have dogs banned.

In some ways I almost hope it happens, as I do not want to bring my grandchildren down to these beaches, even though I love walking my dog everyday.

We do apparently have a dog owner who puts on YouTube a video of the owner and their dog, but as yet have not seen anything.

Any suggestions to help sort this disgusting problem will be passed to the environmental health at the council, as I will be writing as well.

Mick Lightwood,

Saundersfoot.
