Some 120 people supported a Fish and Chip Supper at The Mermaid Restaurant in Saundersfoot last week. They were rewarded with a delicious meal while helping the Saundersfoot and District committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief to raise over £600 towards cancer awareness, and the care of cancer patients and their families.

The supper has become a popular annual event. Guests were entertained with a lively jazz recital from popular duo Brian Jobson on keyboard and Dick Williams on cornet. At the end of the evening, the rapt audience seemed reluctant to leave the happy atmosphere.

Chairman of the committee, Cynthia Scourfield Lewis, thanked all at the event for their support, especially Lindsey and Andrew Evans, owners of The Mermaid, whose hard work and generosity had made the supper possible.

On February 13, representatives of Macmillan Cancer Relief committees in Pembrokeshire were among those who attended the charity's first ever Manifesto for Wales at the National Assembly in Cardiff. The manifesto declares Macmillan's aim to help people from the moment they first hear they have cancer to ensure they get the best information, treatment and care.

The manifesto was presented by a cancer patient from Cardiff, who had benefited from Macmillan services, to the health spokesmen of the four main political parties, all of whom then readily endorsed the document.

The keynote speaker was Peter Cardy, Macmillan's chief executive for the UK.
