Narberth 43 pts Ammanford 7
The Otters might have a poor away record in the league this season, but their home form has been good and the winning sequence at the Lewis Lloyd ground was maintained with some sparkling rugby which produced seven tries and a bonus points win over a committed Ammanford side.
The visitors started strongly, but the Narberth team weathered the storm and came back with sustained periods of attacks, with forwards and backs combining well, as they probed for gaps in the Ammanford defence.
Something had to give, and it did after 14 minutes when flanker Gareth Bateman crashed over for an unconverted try in the right corner, to complete another flowing movement.
The second try 10 minutes before the interval was a peach, as Aled Davies, the Narberth outside-half, mesmerised floundering Ammanford players as he beat man after man with a weaving run.
He scored under the posts and winger Nick Jones converted. That try was soon followed by a try from centre and skipper Steve Martin, who outpaced the covering defence with a clever run to finish another excellent movement.
Unfortunately, Nick Jones was unable to convert.
In the second half, it was clear that the Otters seized the advantage immediately when Steve Martin burst through to score in the right corner after a superb break by Aled Davies.
Seven minutes later, Steve Martin completed a fine hat-trick when he intercepted the ball on the Ammanford 40-metre line and ran at least 70 yards to score his third try.
Further Narberth tries followed, with a solo effort from Nick Jones and a try by full-back Jonathan Morgan, who showed anticipation and pace when he ran to support a defence-stretching run by winger Tom Bonnell, who passed inside to go over for a try under the posts.
Nick Jones converted three of the four Narberth tries scored after the interval.
Towards the end of the match, the visitors were rewarded when left wing Ashley Evans intercepted a ball near the Narberth 22 to race over for a try in the left corner, which outside-half Tom Marks did well to convert, against the slope and from a tight angle..
It was an excellent performance from the Otters, who eradicated most of the mistakes apparent the previous Saturday at Llangennech.
Only time will tell whether the Narberth players have turned the corner for the season, but director of rugby, Jonathan Dodd, thought that the team had taken the first step in the right direction.
Commenting immediately after the match, he said: "We were very pleased with the win and to have played some good rugby. It was a bit scrappy at times, but a big improvement on recent weeks and our defence was good.
"Tactically we are 70 per cent of where we should be, but this was a big step in the right direction.
"It was nice to give the bench a run out towards the end of the match, including two boys currently in the Narberth Youth squad and another young player, centre Aled Jones."
This was a game where the Narberth backs came to life and scored some glorious tries, with outside-half Aled Davies back to his best as he orchestrated proceedings behind the scrum. It was only his second league match this season after missing the first five matches through injury.
The graft to provided possession was carried out up front by the pack with good displays from lock Alex Jenkins, hooker Gareth Jones and number eight Timoci Kaumaitotoya.
Following a top rate all round display and for leading the team by example, centre and captain Steve Martin was nominated man-of-the-match.
The Molson Coors Balcony Suite match sponsors were David Shakesby and Friends and the Otters Holt match sponsors were the Narberth Former Players Association, who enjoyed the talk given by the guest speaker, the former Welsh international and British Lions centre Ken Jones.
Narberth fielded: Jonathan Morgan, Tom Bonnell, Steve Martin, capt., Richard Davies (Aled Jones), Adrian Killa (Connor Lloyd), Aled Davies, Sean Lloyd, Gareth Jones (Dan Smith), Tom Slater Lewis Davies), Chris James (Rob Weston), Alex Jenkins, Gareth Bateman, Jake Iles and Timoci Kaumaitotoya.

Fullback Adam Phillips slotted over three conversions, as well as adding one penalty
In reply, the Amman valley side scored one try and kicked three penalties.
