Young talented rugby players in Pembrokeshire will have a stepping stone to play top quality rugby under a partnership agreement between Narberth and the Llanelli Scarlets.
The Narberth club has been selected as west section feeder club for the new Llanelli Scarlets regional team, along with premier Division teams Llanelli, Carmarthen Quins and Llandovery.
As a result, players joining Narberth will have an opportunity of progressing to provincial rugby with the Scarlets and younger players of joining the new regional development squads.
Development officers and coaches employed by the Scarlets will liaise with the Narberth coaches and attend training sessions at the Narberth club to assess and assist the development of young 'stars' of the future in Pembrokeshire.
The Otters have a tradition of helping good players to progress to 'bigger' sides such as Llanelli and Neath. Under the partnership agreement, this progression will be on a more structured basis
The Scarlets regional development plan calls for placement of regional academy players, and perhaps some of the regional professionals, at the key development sides.
Narberth envisage duplicating the partnership with the Scarlets by setting up partner clubs to Narberth in Pembrokeshire for mutual player development together with a structure to embrace all clubs in the area.
