Narberth made it three wins in a row on Saturday morning, but not without a scare or two along the way.

The travelling Wanderers were geared up from the kick-off and opened the scoring in the first minute when fullback Jamie Davies was put through to give them the lead. Outside-half Jason Pocock also banged over the conversion to leave Narberth trailing 7-0.

The Otters were quick to strike back from this early setback, however, when their own fly-half Simon Daniel landed a penalty to reduce the deficit.

After this, Narberth continued to dominate in open play, but all too often were let down by their attempts to be too intricate when perhaps the simple ball would have done.

This left gaps, which the Wanderers exploited successfully, particularly when winger Owain Thomas knocked on and left the defence bare.

A penalty by Jason Pocock extended the lead for the visitors, before Wanderers' Jamie Davies again collected the ball from a kick and ran a good 80 yards to widen the margin.

The breakaway took its toll, though, with Davies having to leave the field of play after pulling his hamstring. He was replaced by Nick Bellamy.

And so, after just 25 minutes - despite their obvious superiority - the somewhat stunned Otters were already 15 points adrift, and perhaps wondering how this had come about, when suddenly they scored two tries in quick succession.

The first came from prop Andrew Howell who charged over from a tap penalty, with Daniel adding the extras with a successful conversion.

The second came almost straight from the restart.

When the Otters gained possession from the ensuing ruck, livewire scrum-half Chris Macdonald broke away and charged down the right flank, before cutting inside to score between the posts. Again the try was converted, to bring Narberth back into it at the interval.

The Wanderers suffered a blow shortly after the restart when lock Keith Stewart was yellow carded for trying to block the ball on the floor.

Narberth pushed and came close several times, before they finally made their man advantage count when Macdonald powered over from 10 yards for his second try. This time the touchdown went unconverted.

Shortly before the return of Stewart, Narberth scored again when Simon Davies charged down an attempted clearance and off-loaded to Gareth James, who kicked ahead and Daniel Gravell was on hand to score another unconverted try.

Midway through the second half, Narberth scored again through Gravell, with an excellent run from a scrummage on the Wanderers' 22.

The visitors suffered another setback in the second half when centre Craig Williams became their second player to be sin-binned. Simon Daniel successfully kicked the subsequent penalty to give the Otters a healthy 18-point advantage.

Narberth seemed to sit back on this lead and allowed the Wanderers back into the game when Stewart found a way through the defence and touched down in the left corner, with Pocock doing very well to convert from wide out.

The Otters, however, were awarded a penalty try at the death when Gravell was denied a hat-trick, being held on the line. Daniel completed the scoring with the conversion to give Narberth a hard fought win, and keeps the momentum going.
