It's not often that a team can put 50 points on the board and still end up on the losing side, but it happened to the Otters on Saturday as they narrowly lost out to Rhymney by 53 points to 50.
With nothing riding on the outcome, Narberth's last National League division two game of the season turned into a real try-spree as both sides produced some excellent running rugby to entertain the large crowd.
Enjoying the home advantage, the Brewers kept their noses in front for most of the game, capitalising on the pace of Romily Barnett and Matthew Pizey out wide and were two points ahead at the break.
Barnett had crossed twice for the Brewers, Pizey once and fullback Grant Davies had also grabbed a touchdown, while fly-half Wayne Booth had slotted over all three conversions and added a penalty for good measure.
Tries from centres Andrew Bowen and Aled Davies, plus a penalty try along with three conversions and two penalties from stand-off Julian Howells, kept the Otters in touch 29-27 at the change around.
Barnett and Pizey both grabbed their hat-tricks in the second half, Barnett crossing once and Pizey twice, with Booth converting both and adding another penalty.
Howells was on target with three penalties and also converted tries from number eight Gareth Bennett and replacement hooker Richard Emms, but it was not quite enough to give the Otters the edge.
