Llanharan 69 pts. Narberth 13

What a difference a few days make. After reaching the heights on Friday evening at home to Waunarlwydd, Narberth plunged to the depths on Tuesday night at Llanharan. The Dairymen seized the initiative with a slightly fortuitous try by winger Elliott Frewen after three minutes and added three more tries before the interval, with Frewen picking up his second try and other tries being scored by flanker Nikki Allen and hooker Kevin Worgan. Scrum-half Greg Jones converted three of the tries and also added three penalties for good measure. Tom Lewis kicked two first half penalties for Narberth and the outside-half also converted an excellent try by scrum-half Andrew Davies after 39 minutes when the scrum-half finished off a flowing movement started with some adventurous play by winger Wes Pooley. There had been little resistance from the Otters in the first half to the series of attacks mounted by the Dairymen and in the second half resistance crumbled completely as the Dairymen added six more tries. Outside-half James Harries sliced through the Narberth defence twice and the other tries were scored by winger Gary Williams, fullback Gareth Dyer, flanker Justin Jones and centre Rhodri Davies. Fortunately for the scoreline, which makes bad reading in any event, only two of the tries were converted, with Greg Jones on target once and centre Wayne Jervis also converting one try. Talking to Observer Sport after the match, a rather dejected team manager Robert Lewis said:"It was a very disappointing performance tonight and we did not get off the bus. It was one of the worst performances I've seen from a Narberth team over the years. "Llanharan were a completely different proposition to the team we played in Narberth a couple of weeks ago and they produced some scintillating rugby with excellent tries. "Too many of the Narberth players were not prepared to tackle, so we deserved what we got. "Players have got to realise that they have got to have the right attitude to want to win and the performance tonight would also have been most disappointing for senior coach Jonathon Dodd who is working so hard on behalf of the players. "Our backs had little of the ball and were very often facing a two or three-man overlap. "We must raise our game for our visit to Merthyr on Saturday." The Llanharan club has been developing an active youth policy and nine of the players on duty against Narberth were from the village of Llanharan. Narberth fielded: Rob Irving, Josh Freeman, Phil Thomas, Neil Davies (Steve Martin), Wes Pooley (Mark Davies), Tom Lewis, Andrew Davies, Martin Bowen (Sayasi Navunitale), Alan Phillips (captain), Chris James, Jason Jennings, Anthony Griffiths (Rob James), Mathew Davies and Lewis Wood.
