Cricket history will be made in Pembrokeshire next week, when for the first time an orange cricket ball will be used in a cup competition in the county.

Initially the orange balls will be restricted to the Duggie Morris Cup.

Commenting about the experiment, Bill Marchant, secretary of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, explained: "After seeking the co-operation of the clubs involved in this cup competition, the Pembroke County Cricket Club wish to announce that an orange coloured cricket ball will be used in all rounds of the Duggie Morris Cup, including the final, this coming season.

When asked for their opinion on the introduction of an orange coloured cricket ball, all 12 of the clubs involved in this competition agreed to give it a try.

If this proves successful, it is then the intention of the County Club to introduce this ball to all of its cup competitions in 2012.

At the end of each match, both club captains and umpires will be asked for their views on the ball.

This is a first for Pembrokeshire cricket and all cricket followers in the county will be more than interested in how this orange coloured ball fares during the evening fixtures."

The first orange balls will be bowled at 6 pm on Tuesday, May 24, when Lamphey will be home to St Ishmaels and Pembroke Dock will be home to Hook.
