The Tenby Golf Club Open Week, sponsored by Murco, was launched on Saturday, May 31, with an excellent reception hosted by the club captain Bryn Rowell. Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, Mayor of Tenby, and Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, Deputy Mayor, very kindly attended the reception. The visitors were welcomed to a week of golf and hopefully good weather. The wine was kindly provided by Waverley TBS. The Mixed Greensome Foursomes were played on Sunday, June 1, on a lovely day for golf. The winners were Kenneth Webb and Ann Morgan who had 38 points and a better back nine, second were Robert O'Neil and Denise Edwards also with 38 points. The event was sponsored by Chris Beecher, of Hi-tech Industrial Roofing Ltd. Monday, June 2, started with fog and very little wind, but by 10 am, the fog was starting to lift, good weather for the ladies' and men's team competitions. The ladies' team winners were Heather Morgan, Anne Morris and Anita Davies with 82 points. In the men's team competition, in first place were Rob Mitchell, Tim Roebuck and Nathan Amery with 75 points. Second were Nick Davies, Tony Holland and Grant Smith with 74 points and a better back nine, and third also with 74 points were Grant Powell, Brian Thomas. The competition was sponsored by Coors Brewers. Tuesday, June 3, started with sunny spells and hardly any wind. Perfect weather for the ladies' and men's Four Ball Stableford competitions. However, the wind did increase in the afternoon, making it a bit tougher. The ladies' winners were first Anne Morris and Joan Pugh with an excellent 41 points. Second were Katherine Collier and Ann Marsden with 39 points and third were Dawn Banbury and Freda Clark with 37 points. The ladies' competition was sponsored by Celtic Haven. The men's competition was won by Billy Flemming and Tony Price with an excellent 41 points, second were John Elam and David Hancock with 39 points and a better back three, and third were Tony and Pete Richardson also with 39 points. The men's competition was sponsored by FBM Holidays.
