An open verdict was recorded on a young mother whose bodywas found in the sea off Tenby's Castle Beach last November.

Although an inquest in Milford Haven heard last week at 25-year-old Lisa Jenkins, of 7 Llewellyn Avenue, Neath had taken a cocktail of drugs on the day she died, HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire, Mr. Michael Howells said he was not satisfied on the evidence given that she intended to take her own life that night.

The inquest was told that Miss Jenkins, a former Swansea University student, had suffered from chronic depression for several years.

This had got worse following the birth of her son some six weeks before she died.

She was on medication, but was not considered suicidal.

On November 5, Miss Jenkins had left her family home in Neath, saying she was going to show her grandmother her new car.

She later called home from Tenby, telling her family not to worry about her.

However, concerned by her coughing and swallowing noises on the 'phone, and the sound of the sea in the background, her father Mr. Ian Jenkins and boyfriend, Mr. Sebastian Heald, decided to head off to Tenby in search of her.

They discovered her car near the slipway to Castle Beach, and Mr. Heald found Miss Jenkins floating in the sea off the beach.

The two men recovered her from the water and tried to resuscitate her without success.

A post mortem at Withybush Hospital gave the cause of death as drowning, although toxology tests also indicated a 'cocktail' of drugs in her body.

"There is certainly no evidence to suggest any intention by Miss Jenkins to commit suicide," said Mr. Howells. "Therefore I record an open verdict."
