THREE local people have achieved degrees with the Open University.
Among those celebrating success is 52-year-old Marike McBean, of the Old Post Office, Lawrenny, who gained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree.
A hotel receptionist, Mrs. McBean took time out due to illness and finished studying after eight years.
She believes the Open University is the only university that allows you to have 'gap' years, move to a different part of the country and study whilst working.
Civil servant supervisor, Steve Davies, of 7 Ragged Staff, Saundersfoot, meanwhile, obtained a BSc (honours) in Social Sciences.
Thirty-two-year-old Steve gained a place on his employer's staff development scheme and was promoted within the last two years.
And after achieving a BSc (Hons) degree, 45-year-old post-graduate student, June Perrott-Firth, of Seletra, Penally, hopes to study for a teaching certificate with the Open University.
The graduation ceremony takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at St. David's Hall, Cardiff.
