An 'Open Afternoon' was held at Tenby Junior School last Wednesday. A large number of friends of the school were in attendance and enjoyed the displays of work and musical items.

A particularly warm welcome was extended to the guest of honour, Mrs. Val Scurlock, pastoral advisor, and to Mrs. Janice Llewellyn, who was appointed to succeed Mr. Peter Williams, headteacher, who is retiring at the end of the term.

The event was supported by the following guests: Mr. Paul Knight, chairman of school governors; Mr. David Lewis, governor; Clr. Mrs. Carolyn Thomas, governor; Mrs. Gill John, Tenby Infants School; and Mrs. Heather Henry, Greenhill School.

Cross country: The following pupils reached the Pembrokeshire team, but were unable to compete for their county due to the foot and mouth crisis. They achieved their positions at the Pembrokeshire Cross Country event held at Oakwood - Curtis Hurlow 5th, Sarah McLaren 9th, Emma Griffiths 9th, Antoinette Bourne 5th, Chris Heesom 4th, Kiefer Thomson 6th, Matthew Davies 8th, Sam Christopher 5th, Nicki-Dee Furlong 1st.

The school won the Pembrokeshire Shield for the best school team.

Athletics team: Sam Christopher came second in the 100 metres; James Criddle came third in the long jump; Guto Griffiths, Henry Boot, Billy Vaughan and Sam Christopher won the boys' relay; Sam and James represented the county against Glamorgan this week.

County Choir: Sarah Jayne Hanlon, Eleri Messenger, Jenny Hall, Grace Challinor, Victoria Simpson Sarah Davies, Amy Harries, Carla Roberts, Emily Ruff, Hannah Beacon.

County Orchestra and Windband (grade 3+): Steffan Cicotti, William Edwards, Jenna Cope, Maria Lewis, Carys Bromby, Hannah Lowe, Jessica Cale, Natalie Hunt, Sophie John.

Notable successes this year at the County Festival: Carys Bromby - Sister Cecilia Memorial Shield for String Player of the Year, 3rd in Open Piano and Highly Commended in Open Strings; Steffan Ciccotti - 1st in Open Percussion and 2nd in Open Piano; Hannah Lowe - 1st Grade 3 violin; Sophie John - 1st Grade 3 clarinet; William Hughes - 1st Grade 2 Saxophone; Olivia Rees - 1st Grade 2 flute; William Edwards - 3rd in Open Brass.

Tenby Junior School String Ensemble (Carys Bromby, Rhys Hodgson, Jessica Cale, Hannah Lowe, Sophie Rees and Antoinette Bourne) 3rd in Classical Ensemble.

Eleri Messenger, Natalie Hunt, Sam Anderson and Sam Ormond also came highly placed at the festival.
