A total of 175 foreign heavy goods vehicles were stopped in Pembrokeshire as part of a week-long campaign.

Operation Emerald was targeting foreign goods vehicles on their way to and from the ferry ports.

During the week-long campaign, they carried out multi-agency checks, with VOSA looking at the tachograph records of drivers and the roadworthiness of foreign heavy goods vehicles.

The operation resulted in: number of vehicles checked - 175; graduated fixed penalties issued - 43; total of fines as a result of graduated fixed penalties - £6,740; immediate prohibitions issued - 12.

Inspector Andy Phillips said: "Forty-three of the vehicles checked were not complying with the law.

"Twelve were so seriously in breach of it we issued immediate prohibitions which meant they were unable to continue with their journey.

"We will continue to target all road users who breach the law to ensure Pembrokeshire roads are kept safe."
