Sir,
The town council narrowly agreed with the proposal to pilot the one-way of Serpentine Road to reduce congestion, with the intention to make it a safer area for the children when dropped off for school.
This seems sensible enough - or does it?
If parents and drivers see congestion they slow down and stay alert. The chance of an accident is reduced and the consequence of any accident is minimal.
The plan to reduce congestion and speed up traffic means alertness reduces and speed increases. The consequence of an accident is more serious. The proposal is actually dangerous.
I await to hear how the pilot will be evaluated.
In addition, the residents of Serpentine Road and all the residents and businesses in the surrounding area, including Penally, who use the road to avoid the congestion at The Green, will be seriously inconvenienced.
Maybe, the council will have a re-think and decide to listen to all the residents who will be affected.
Phil Bromby,
