“We have travelled to many of the most remote and seemingly inaccessible places of pilgrimage in the British Isles; shuddered and laughed together at some of the predicaments encountered along the way; and known the delight of discovering places where for centuries people have felt especially close to God - sacred places, places of pilgrimage…”

In 1988, Pilgrim Adventure began to lead small groups of people on pilgrimage to the more remote parts of Britain and Ireland, following in the footsteps of the early Celtic saints. David Gleed has been involved as a leader with not-for-profit Pilgrim Adventure, now known as Journeying, from its very earliest days, taking many holiday journeys in Britain and Ireland.

Brought up in the West Country, home for David these days is in Pembrokeshire, with its deep Celtic heritage and wonderful coastal scenery.

The book comprises 12 tales from along the pilgrim’s way, including travels through Wester Ross, the Lake District and to the Skellig Isles. It draws to a close in Pembrokeshire with visits to the islands of Caldey and Ramsey; one, obviously spiritual with its monastery and churches, the other perhaps less so… but, “stand a moment; let the breeze gently brush past you; notice the sheep grazing by the dry-stone wall; the sea, moving, shining, living…”

This little book is a personal account interspersed with ‘poems and reflections for the journey’.
