We Are Sunday League is a bittersweet, real-life story from football’s grass roots.
The Wizards FC was a team of former schoolfriends who - with the help of a few star ringers - slogged their way through mud, skinheads and Staffordshire bull terriers (and their business) to to the summit of Sunday League football in north London.
In this his first book, team captain Ewan Flynn brings alive a world of young men giving it their all on sloping pitches a million miles from the glamour of the Premier League, and officials who volunteer to maintain some sort of order
It is a tale about growing up, friendship, being a man (sometimes), injuries and passion. Ewan Flynn brings alive the bobbly pitches, the scars of professional careers cut short, the thrill of lifting Sunday League silverware, even the dream-come-true of captaining your country against the World Champions in a UEFA European Championship qualifier.
No schoolboy was ever captivated by net spends and transfer windows. We Are Sunday League reminds us why we fell in love with the game, and why once football has you, it never lets you go.
Published by Pitch Publishing Ltd, the 256-page paperback will be available from July 1 and RRP is £9.99.
