Geoff Titterton shares nine-year journey at sea: Written as a factual recollection of Geoff and Evey Titterton’s travels between 1994 and 2003, ‘Our Nine Year Honeymoon’ (published by AuthorHouse UK) is a true record of their journey on the Eclipse of Penarth, a 43-foot cutter-rigged sailing cruiser. From the United Kingdom, around the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic and to the Caribbean, the book takes readers through a journey at sea.
After 30 years of service with the BBC, Titterton was able to secure an early retirement in order to sail away. His new Dutch wife, Evey, was not deterred by the prospect of living on a boat and they set out on their first wedding anniversary.
Encouraged by friends and relatives to share his and Evey’s adventure, Titterton decided to write their story for their family. He also includes photos from their multi-year journey.
An excerpt from ‘Our Nine Year Honeymoon’: It was 1987 when the idea of ‘sailing away into the sunset’ became a lot more than just a dream. I had spent my whole career enjoying my work as a TV cameraman, lighting director, and technical co-ordinator with the BBC. During that time I raised a family and saw Lucy and Chris grow into two fine adults. Alas my marriage failed after 21 years, which led me to start thinking of a new beginning. I had been ‘messing about in boats’ since the age of 10, so sailing was my passion. I was not yet ready to retire, but the opening of the new marina in Penarth made it possible to ‘live aboard’ and still continue working.
About the author
Geoff Titterton had a 10-foot rowing boat at the age of 10. He progressed to dinghy sailing and racing in National Redwings in Tenby, and then to GP14s in Cardiff. He moved into sailing cruisers with friends for racing and holiday cruising. Eventually, Titterton bought Eclipse of Penarth, a 43-foot cutter-rigged sailing cruiser, to live aboard and sail away into the sunset. This is his first book.
