Keen cyclists from Valero's Pembroke refinery will be slipping their cycle shoes into their toe clips on Saturday, May 12, to take part in the annual Tour of Pembrokeshire. They will also be supported by their colleagues from the Valero Volunteer Council, who will act as stewards.
This year's tour departs from a new starting venue in Oriel y Parc, St. Davids, and features three routes of different lengths, 50, 75 and 100 miles, through some of Wales's most beautiful countryside, with the longest race including more challenging hill climbing.
On the next day, there is a family treasure hunt arranged with help from staff at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, over a distance of eight or 16 miles.
The tour is a charity fundraiser and this year the two beneficiaries are the Wales Air Ambulance and the RNLI.
Jane James, policy government and public affairs manager at Valero's Pembroke refinery, said: "The weekend will be a true community event because it brings together people and groups from right across the county. Volunteers from air, sea and army cadets, Rotarians and Round Tablers and some of our own employees and contractors will assist Peter Walker from Pembrokeshire Bikes to run the event and some of them will be riding it too."
Valero's Pembroke refinery is the main sponsor of the Tour of Pembrokeshire and has supported the race for five years. Registration for the tour is open now at http://www.tourofpembrokeshire.co.uk">www.tourofpembrokeshire.co.uk with a reduced entry fee available before April 1.
