Sir, More than 18 months ago you published a news item with photographs to the effect that two members of the Tenby Constabulary had been trained and equipped with bicycles. I am disappointed to say that I have never seen either Sgt. Malin or PC John (the two officers who appeared in the photo) patrolling Tenby on their bikes. City police forces in the USA and in other parts of the world make good and effective use of their two-wheel mounted officers. John Reid, the Government's Home Secretary, has made it very clear that he wants to... 'restore the bobby to the community and to have a police force that is visible, accessible, responsive'. Why can't we have bicycle-equipped officers patrolling Tenby, particularly during our very busy summer months? Now is the time for our officers to get their bikes out, cleaned up and oiled and tyres blown up ready for the 2007 summer! I would hasten to add that I hesitated to suggest that our local Constabulary should go so far as the North Wales Constabulary, and have horse mounted officers patrolling our town, but I have to admit that they would be much more of a tourist attraction than cycling policemen.
