Young pianist Siriol Jenkins from Wiseman’s Bridge is on her way to Oxford University at the age of 17 after her A-level results.
Siriol, a pupil at Ysgol y Preseli, will be studying music at Magdalen College after gaining A* grades in music and the Welsh Bacc along with As in English, French and Spanish.
“Getting my results was awesome,” she said. “But above all I just wanted to win my place at Oxford, it’s such a great opportunity for me and I’m so excited.
“The music department has strong links with the Royal Academy of Music in London so it offers the best of both worlds for me to study performance and composition.”
Siriol is a former pupil of Narberth School and moved up a year at Preseli before taking her GCSEs where she collected 13A* grades plus a distinction in additional maths and the Welsh Bacc.
She is a regular performer at concerts locally and has won numerous performance and composition prizes at music festivals and Urdd Eisteddfodau. This year she added the title of Dyfed Young Musician to her achievements and was awarded both the Principal’s Prize and the Concerto Prize at the Junior Conservatoire of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where she has attended on Saturdays over the past three years.
