Friends and relations will be joining family mourners on Monday, December 17, for the funeral of Mr. William Mark Butters, who died on December 8, aged 97. The funeral service will take place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, at 12.15 pm, to be conducted by Mr. Timothy Sines, of Penally. This will be followed by a memorial service at 1.30 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Devonshire Road, Pembroke Dock, to be conducted by Mr. Charles Brooks, of Tenby. Mr. Butters was a faithful and much loved member of both Tenby and Pembroke Dock congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses. Being an enthusiastic and active member while he had his health. He was born and brought up in Eston, Middlesborough, on September 25, 1913. He moved to Hinckley, Leicestershire, in 1931, where he married his wife Daphne and had their first daughter Pamela. He joined the 1st Battalion of the Leicester Regiment. Sent to Japan he became a PoW on the infamous Burma railway. Having been in the St. Johns Ambulance, he became very useful, being used as a medical orderly in the prison camps. He was named in the London's Gazette for distinguished service and received His Majesty's high appreciation. On returning home he and his wife rebuilt their lives and had two more daughters, Angela and Roslyn. They moved with their daughter Roslyn to Tenby in 1969 where they settled and enjoyed living in such a beautiful area. With his wife he had a popular retail business at Tenby Market Hall until his retirement in 1978. After the death of his wife in 1995 his health slowly deteriorated. He subsequently went to live with his daughter Roslyn at Pembroke in 1998. For the last six years he was kindly cared for by Sunnybank Care Home and for the last six weeks at Brooklands Care Home. Principal mourners in attendance will be Pamela Camm (daughter), Angela and Charles Ricketts (daughter and son-in-law), Rosyln and Richard (daughter and son-in-law). Also in attendance will be grandchildren Matthew (and his wife Rachel), Suzanna, Joseph, Luke and Christopher (and his wife Rachael, great-grandchildren Naomi and Osian and great-great-grandchild Isaac. Unable to attend, grandchildren Nathaniel, Sara-Louise, Mark and Daniel, great-grandchildren James, Anthony, Timothy and Holly, Dana, Tori and Katelyn-Angela. He will be sadly missed with fond memories by family and friends. 'Leaving him in Jehovah's memory for happier times to come'. There will be family flowers only. Donations in lieu for the 'Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses'. The funeral arrangements are to be directed by John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.
