REYNALTON

As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital on Thursday, January 19, of Mr. Colwyn Ivor Hughes, known as Ivor, aged 83 years, of Maes Elwyn John, Reynalton, formerly of New House Farm, Cresselly.

Beloved husband of Sheila, dearly-loved father of Roy. Much-loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle.

Ivor left school at 14 years and went to work at Returno Farm, Narberth, and then went to work for Jack Harries at Carne. He remained there until he married Sheila in 1958. Shortly afterwards, he went to work for his father-in-law at Horse Park and lived close by at Guildford. In 1961, there was a move to a smallholding at Grove, Cresselly, where they started farming, and in 1969, a move to New House where he successfully farmed until 2009. They moved to Reynalton where he enjoyed his retirement.

Ivor enjoyed all sports, especially cricket where he played for Lawrenny in his early days whilst following as a spectator in later years. He was a founder member of the South Pembs. Hunt Supporters Club and was a chairman for many years. He also enjoyed local whist drives.

Family left to mourn: Roy (son), Derek (brother), Evelyn (sister), John and Delma (brother and sister-in-law), nephews and nieces.

Bearers: Denzil Hughes, Robert Griffiths, Ton Lewis, Sam Davies, Matt Lewis and Joe Kidney.

A family funeral service took place on Wednesday, February 1, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, followed by a celebration and thanksgiving service at St. Caradog Church, Lawrenny. Officiating were Father Paul Boyle and Canon Michael Lewis.

Mrs. M. V. Eynon

As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully at Ridgeway Care Home, Llawhaden, on Sunday, February 12, of Mrs. Margaret Valerie Eynon, aged 92, formerly of 35 St. James Street, Narberth.

Predeceased by her husband Wyndham, Margaret is survived by Dorothy and Richard (daughter and son-in-law), Jonathan and Wendy (son and daughter-in-law), Lindy (daughter), Ceri, Phillip, Bethan and Christopher (grandchildren).

Margaret was born on April 5, 1924. She was the child of Charles and Rubie Lewis, of 11 High Street, Narberth, also known as Bristol House, which became the first café in Narberth, where Margaret was well-known for making wedding cakes for family and friends.

In December 1952, Margaret married Wyndham Eynon, whom she had met at the October fair two years earlier. Upon their marriage, Margaret moved to Middleton Farm, Ludchurch, and became a farmer’s wife. They had three children, Dorothy, Jonathan and Lindy. Margaret shared 59 years of marriage with Wyndham until his passing 6 years ago.

In 1992, Margaret and Wyndham retired and moved back to Narberth to 35 St. James Street. They were faithful members of St. Andrew’s Church helping with coffee mornings and the summer fetes. Margaret enjoyed baking for and with her grandchildren and also made birthday cakes for other family members and friends. You could be sure that if you went to No. 35, there would always be a pot of tea and a plate of lovely cakes to greet you. Margaret always loved cats and was never without one until she moved into Ridgway Care Home, in March 2016, where she received excellent care and enjoyed socialising with the other residents.

Family was everything to Margaret. She was proud of her grandchildren, Ceri, Bethan, Philip and Christopher and loved spending time with them, and loved their visits, where she found out about everything going on in their lives!

Family, friends and neighbours attended the funeral at St. Andrew’s Church, Narberth, on Saturday, February 18, followed by interment at the church cemetery. Officiating were Rev. Martin Cox, Rev. Graham Lloyd and Rev. Chris Rees. The bearers were Philip Eynon, Mark Simpkins, Peter Thomas and Garwood Edwards.

MRS. E. E. M. BUTLER

PEMBROKE DOCK

As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully on Monday, January 23, of Mrs. Evelyn Edna May Butler, affectionately known as May, aged 96, of Glenview Avenue, Llanion Park, Pembroke Dock.

May was born in 1920 in Pembroke Dock, and lived there all of her life. She was pre-deceased by her beloved Stan in 1969 after 30 happy years of marriage. They had one daughter, Ann.

Being such an active lady, she enjoyed many holiday abroad with Ann and her husband Ray. Unfortunately, at the age of 90, she fell at Cardiff Airport, when about to leave for a holiday in Spain, and broke her hip. May never fully recovered from this and slowed down until her illness took over, and for the last two-and-a-half years was in Ashdale Care Home where she was looked after with such care and respect.

May was a proud grandmother to Neil, and was overjoyed when Neil and Joanna had a baby boy, Rhys, last September, meeting him for the first time over the Christmas period in Ashdale. May was able to hold and kiss her great-grandson, and family photos were taken of this happy event.

During her life, May’s main interests were her family, home, cooking, gardening, sewing and knitting and was always ready with help and advice to family and friends and will be remembered for her dignity, honesty, patience, understanding, helping other people, friendships which she held dear, and her overwhelming love and support for her family.

Family left to mourn: Ann and Ray (daughter and son-in-law), Neil and Joanna (grandson and fiancée), Rhys (great-grandson), Lyn Court (nephew), Susan Bowen (goddaughter), numerous family, friends and neighbours. Unable to attend were Barbara Beare, Pam Butler, Sarah Gronroy, Amanda Butler, Jane Butler (nieces), Gary Goldthorpe (godson).

MR. W. H. MORGANS

PEMBROKE

As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 24, of Mr. William Henry Morgans, aged 88, and known affectionately as Billy, of Main Street, Pembroke.

He left school at 14 years of age and began a seven year apprenticeship with Bush Estate Services as a carpenter. He continued working as a carpenter throughout Pembrokeshire on various construction projects both large and small. Billy was a skilled carpenter and his trade skills were put to good use from making anything from Welsh dressers to renovating property. Besides working as a carpenter, in 1963, Billy became licensee and owner of the York Tavern which he ran with his wife Ruth until their retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed looking after his smallholding and over the years got involved in rearing cattle, pigs and chickens. He also had a love of horses and was always delighted to see new life arrive in the form of a new foal being born on the small holding. He was very interested in horse racing, a passion he shared with his wife Ruth. Billy would love nothing better than a family day out at Ffos Las racecourse. Billy liked travelling and visited many countries, including Australia.

He was married for 67 years to Ruth Morgans, a Liverpudlian girl who was in the Land Army when the met. They began their married life in Laws Street, Pembroke Dock.

Predeceased by her husband Victor and son Brian, she is survived by her son Rob, daughter-in-law Joanna, and grandson Garin.

MRS. E. E. M. PHILLIPS

JAMESTON

As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully at home on Sunday, January 29, of Mrs. Edna Evelyn May Phillips, aged 90 years, of Bush Terrace, Jameston.

Edna was the widow of the late William ‘Billy’ Phillips, of Bush Terrace, Jameston, and the mother of Susie Goodrick and Janice Gooch.

A native of the village of Angle, Edna attended Angle school. At the age of 15, she left school and got a job helping in Angle Rectory, moving into Angle House and shop where her sister Doreen also worked for Mr. and Mrs. Davies. She left there and went on to the Globe Hotel in Angle as a chambermaid. Following on from that she worked in the Castle House, Angle, looking after all the officers wives. Edna also worked and spent a lot of time on Studak Farm with her brother Bertie until the family moved to Manorbier Newton to Newton Farm which her brother Bertie owned. Edna’s final job before retirement was in Manorbier School working as a dinner lady.

With the help and support of the Argyle surgery, doctors and district nursing team Edna was able to be nursed and cared for in her own home as she had requested. Edna passed away peacefully and in comfort, with her daughter Suzy, grandson Paul and wife Linda by her side.

Edna was preceded by her husband Billy, also sister Doreen, brothers Billy, Bertie and Teddie and her great granddaughter Dana.

The love for her family was known to everyone and from the photographs on show in her home she was proud to be the nan, great-nan, great-great -nan and aunty everybody loved so much. Her support to her great-grandson Jonathon was outstanding and to see him now with his own little family made her so proud.

Edna loved to be surrounded by her family, three grandsons, Michael, Richard and Paul, four great-grandsons Jonathon, Billy, Tyler and Alex, three great-granddaughters Ruby, Dana and Jill. Also a wonderful achievement Edna became a great-great nanny to Kiara-Grace and Bibi-Rose making five generations twice over.

There was a large attendance to the funeral service that was held on Monday, February 13, at St. James Church, Manorbier, officiated by Rev. Alex Grace, who delivered the eulogy, and Linda, Edna’s granddaughter read the poem ‘She Is Gone’.

Bearers were: Derek Richards (nephew), Peter, Andrew and Phillip Kidney (family friends).

The death occurred at home, Flat 3 Hanover Court, Picton Terrace, Tenby, on Monday, February 20, of Mr. John Arthur James. He was 76.

Predeceased by his son Caradoc, he is survived by his daughter Lis, son-in-law Rob and grandchildren Emma, Dean and Chloe.

Funeral service Wednesday, March 8, 11.30 am, Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.
