GARETH AND DANIEL WILLINGTON, CRESSELLY

A moving service of memories for the lives of Gareth Willington, of Cresselly, and his son Daniel, was recently held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Affectionately known as ‘Spike’, Gareth died in a tragic accident at sea in April of this year. He was aged 59. Daniel is still missing.

A native of Pembroke, among Gareth’s main interests were fishing, his grandchildren, rugby, football and golf.

As well as his wife Gail, family left to mourn are Mary (mum), Darrell, Richard, Jonathan and Anna (brothers and sister), as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends too numerous to mention.

Daniel’s family: Gail (mum), Alice (wife), Roxanne and Pixie (daughters), John and Val Evans (grandparents), Mary (grandmother), Robert (a lifelong friend), aunties, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

At the request of the families, dress for the service was smart/casual.

A guard of honour was formed by local fishermen and shooting friends, who walked in front of the colourful casket which displayed Gareth and Daniel’s boats, The Gowan Star and Flowing Tide II.

By request, there were no flowers, apart from those picked from Gareth’s garden.

Two close friends sold fishermen pin badges in aid of The Fishermen’s Mission.

Officiating at the service was the Rev. Huw George, while bearers were Martyn Cole, Roger Scourfield, Kenny Swan, Leon Simes, Nick Howells and Richard Jones.

Tenby

A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby, on Thursday, October 6, of Mr. Ernest Edwin Vokes.

Ernie, as he was affectionately known, passed away peacefully at his home in The Glebe, Tenby, aged 70.

Ernie was a native of Cefn Forest, Blackwood, and worked as a lampman in the coal mines. His main interests were his family and he was also a keen gardener. Ernie was the Sergeant at Mace for Tenby Town Council for three years and was assistant prior to that.

Family left to mourn are Val, wife, Kim and Dai, daughter and son-in-law, Gareth and Kirsty, son and partner, Elisa and Garry, step-daughter and partner, Natasha, Nathan, Aled, Gareth, Alfie, Charlie, Megan, Iwan, grandchildren, Fred, Eileen, Doreen, Jackie, brother and sisters, the two Callums, Tyler, great-grandchildren.

The service was conducted by Rev. John Morgan, assisted by Rev. Canon Andrew Grace. Readings were given by the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Laurence Blackhall and town clerk, Andrew Davies; Ernie’s son-in-law Dai read the poem, Look for Me in Rainbows.

Bearers were Gareth, Dai, John, Jonathan, Daniel and Gavin.

Following the service, the Mayor and town councillors walked the cortege out of town.

Mr. M. J. Griffiths

Tenby

The death occurred peacefully at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen on Wednesday, October 5, of Mr. Michael John Griffiths. He lived in Heywood Court, Tenby, and was aged 78.

Michael leaves to mourn his wife Susan, children Debra, Andrew, Amanda and Dougie (Paul), also 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and other family and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral service takes place on Monday, October 17, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, at 2.30 pm.

Mrs. Betty Mary Merrony

St. Florence

As reported last week, Betty Merrony, 87, of Mill Park, St. Florence, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John, sons Nigel, Simon, Nick and Mark, their wives Deborah, Elaine, Jane, and Katherine, grandchildren Alexandra, Lewis, wife Julie, India, Magenta, Harriet, Jack, Faye, Kate, Hannah and Lily, great-grandchildren Noah, Jobe, Raff, Nayra, Finn, Alfie, Venus, Sol and Raphaella.

The funeral will take place today (Friday), 11.30 am, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital on Sunday, October 2, of Mr. Anthony Paul ‘Tony’ Roberts, of Wellington Street, Pembroke Dock. He was 64.

The funeral will take place on Monday, October 17, with a service at St. John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, at 2 pm, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery.

PEMBROKE DOCK

Mrs. Ivy Doreen Roberts passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, at Ashdale Care Home, Pembroke, aged 93 years.

Ivy was predeceased by her beloved husband William and son Bruce from her first marriage. Originally from Bridgend, Ivy moved to Pembrokeshire when she was a young girl, and settled in Pembroke Dock.

Ivy was married twice and had five children from her first marriage and four from her second. Ivy was very much a family person and loved being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ivy leaves to mourn Nancy, Violet, Dilys and son-in-law Hayden, David, Roy and daughter-in-law Christine, Walwyn and daughter-in-law Caroline, Mary and son-in-law John and Michael, daughter-in-law Sophie, plus all of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, together with friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral service was held at Monkton Priory Church, Monkton, on Thursday, September 29, and was attended by a large gathering of family and friends prior to interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Pembroke, where Ivy was interred with her beloved husband William.

The bearers were Walwyn and Michael (sons), Daniel and Jason (granddaughters husbands), and Teddy (close friend).

The funeral arrangements were conducted by E. C. Thomas and Son, funeral directors, 31 Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock.

As reported last week, the death occurred at her home in Millfields Close, Pentlepoir, on Sunday, October 2, of Mrs. Myrtle Rosemary Skilton. She was aged 91.

Myrtle will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

The death occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital on Tuesday, September 27, of Mrs. May Brandon Culley, of Two-Penny Hay, Holyland Road, Pembroke. She was 91.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 18, with a service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, at 2.30 pm.

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred peacefully at Withybush Hospital following a short illness on Wednesday, October 5, of Mr. Barry Charles Pullin, of St. Mary’s Road, Pembroke Dock. He was 63.

The funeral will take place on Friday, October 21, with a Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Pembroke Dock, at 11 am, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery.

‘Good friend’ of Tenby passes away

A ‘good friend’ of Tenby sadly passed away over the weekend.

Mick Cotton, of Coventry, who spent many a year holidaying in the resort, sadly died earlier this month, his family have reported.

“Mick made lots of friends down in Tenby, as he used to come down once a year, and his family may even scatter his ashes down here,” said local hotelier, Malcolm Thomas, of Tenby’s Belgrave Hotel.
