MRS. J. JAMES
SAGESTON
The funeral of Jean James took place at St. Mary’s Church, Carew Cheriton, on Friday, December 18. She passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital, aged 65.
Jean was born in Lamar Street, Carmarthen, the youngest of three sisters. She spent many a happy childhood holiday caravanning in Tenby and visiting family in Cheshire. She went on to attend Ammanford College, where she qualified as a nursery nurse.
Jean married Peter and they spent their early family life in Pembroke, before settling in Sageston in 1980.
They had three children, Stephanie, Phillip and Holly. Sadly Peter passed away in 2002.
Jean greatly enjoyed her job as a support worker for adults with learning difficulties for the last 20 years, mainly at Tudor House, St. David’s Carmarthen. She considered her colleagues as part of her extended family and was affectionately known as Ruby.
Never far from the fun, Ruby was always keen for a night out, a trip to the Bingo and a particular favourite was the Moulin Rouge in Paris, with her partner in crime Coral.
Jean had a wonderful zest for life and this was evident in all that she did. When her family were young, there were regular beach gatherings of family and friends, particular favourites being Broad Haven South and Pembrey. With a picnic, barbecue, wind breaker and rubber dingy - usually the first to arrive and last to leave! Many an adventure was had on those trips.
Always a keen gardener, something she inherited from her mother, Connie, she took much pride and pleasure in her garden and rarely missed the opportunity to visit a garden centre or take a day trip to a flower show to acquire new pots and plants.
Hampton court flower show was an annual favourite with Gwen. Jean enjoyed researching her family tree and had taken many a day trip to get her information, she had traced her family back to 18th century, discovering lots of interesting family history.
Jean enjoyed travelling and always took the opportunity to go to historic family houses, weekends to Christmas markets and visiting many countries with family and friends. Reading was a great passion for Jean and a joke was often made about opening a library with the books she had at home.
Jean will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, but as someone who looked on the bright side of life ‘she would want no doom and gloom’, but for us to remember her with a smile.
The family left to mourn are Stephanie and Brendan (daughter and son-in-law); Phillip and Hayley (son and daughter-in-law); Holly and Ryan (daughter and son-in-law); Patricia and John (sister and brother-in-law); Jennifer and Alex (sister and brother-in-law); Peter and Beryl (close cousins); Cameron, Meryn, Euan, Aaron, Bradley, Joshua, Sam, Max, Otto and Henry (grandchildren); Darcie (great-granddaughter) and many nieces and nephews.
Donations in memory of Jean can be made payable to the Harriet Davis Trust, c/o funeral directors, Messrs. W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd., The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, or Landsker House, 21 Station Road, Narberth.

MR. G. JONES IEng MIIE (Mech)
SAUNDERSFOOT
The funeral took place at St. Mary’s Church, Whitland, on Saturday, August 8, of Graeme Jones, of Sunflower Lodge, Valley Road, Saundersfoot, aged 62.
The service was conducted by a close family friend, Rev. Kingsley Taylor, Vicar of Whitland. The eulogy was written in the last few weeks by Graeme himself, and was very ably given by another close family friend, Rev. Huw George.
The bearers were Dave Neale, Dave Hunt, Quentin Husband, Roy James, Darran James and Clive Kennington, all dear friends to Graeme and Wendy.
Loving husband to Wendy for 33 years, dearly loved dad of Nicholas and Joshua along with their partners, Katie Morgan and Claire Wiggins, his grandchildren Dottie andJames, older brother Frank and his wife Alison, Diane (sister) and David Neale (brother-in-law) and long-time friend, Lucy (niece) and Evan (nephew), Mrs. Audrey James (mother-in-law), Roy and Sue James (brother and sister-in-law), Darran James (brother-in-law), Dylan James (nephew), Sam (nephew) and partner Amy Lewis and Poppy (great-niece).
He was predeceased by his father Harry in 2008 and his mum Teri Jones in 2014, of Golygfa, Chapel Hill, Maidenwells, Pembroke.
A very full church of extended family, friends, colleagues from Pembroke Power Station showed the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.
Graeme was born in Balham in London, lived in both Ashbourne and Chaddesden in Derby as a child, moving to Pembrokeshire at the age of 17, when his father secured a position at the then new oil-fired power station. Graeme transferred his apprenticeship with the Electricity Generating Board at Spondon Power Station to Carmarthen Bay, at Burry Port, where he was met off the train by Roy James, who become his future brother-in-law.
He had numerous sporting interests, played football for Carew Football Club in the 1970s, played squash for Woodridge ‘D’ team, sub aqua diving, badminton, basketball, cycling and running. He also enjoyed autograss with his younger son, Josh, and his good friend, Clive Kennington.
In 1976, he became Scout leader in Lamphey where he would teach the boys to swim, ride a bike, abseil and took them on summer camps, again with one of his good friends who he managed to trick into joining the Scouts, Mr. David Hunt.
He met his future wife Wendy, best friend and lover in the early 1980s. They were engaged in 1981 and married a year later at Whitland Church on August 28, 1982. Their son Nicholas was born in 1985 and Joshua in 1992; their family was complete.
He, Wendy and the boys enjoyed many wonderful holidays, caravanning to France and Spain, trips to Pakistan, Australia, America and their apartment in Tenerife.
In 1995, he decided to return to education through work and he graduated in 1995. He was so proud to have achieved this as a mature student, and went on to become an Incorporated Mechanical Engineer.
They designed and built their own house in the late 1990s, he was very much hands on when he could be home, but when the Power Station in Pembroke closed, he was forced to work away for a while, but missed his family far too much and returned first on contract work with A C Automation, then to work for Pembrokeshire County Council in 2006 in the building maintenance department.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, had chemo and radiotherapy, after which he returned to work, first back with the council and then secured a job with the new Pembroke Power Station which he knew and loved.
In 2013, he was diagnosed with another cancer, more rare and very aggressive. After various treatments, sadly Graeme lost his long bravely fought battle on July 27 at Ward 10, Withybush Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends.
During his childhood, he loved card games, board games and magic tricks and often used to teach the boys and their friends his knowledge of what he had learned, and later on he would show the boys in the Power Station some of his ‘best’ card tricks, and some (terrible) jokes they will never forget!
His favourite trick was ‘The Nine of Hearts’, a card that always managed to be pulled out of a pack; you may say perhaps the whole pack was the same card, but that’s one thing we will never know!
He also loved gardening whilst he was unwell and used to grow lots of sunflowers for his colleagues and friends, and then have a competition on Facebook as to who had the tallest ones.
Graeme was a strong-willed, hard-working person who loved to share his knowledge and zest for life with others, and helped all who crossed his path, whether it be through work, friendship or anyone in need of his advice and knowledge. Graeme’s favourite saying was ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who happened to cross his path in life.
There were family flowers only, but donations are still being received for Paul Sartori and Macmillan, c/o funeral directors, E. C. Thomas, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, or donations online can be made to: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SomeoneSpecial/Graeme.Jones
