MR. C. JONES

TENBY

The funeral took place on Tuesday, September 2, at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, of Mr. Chris Jones, of Rosebay, Church Park, Tenby, who passed away at home on August 25. He was 61.

Born in Llanelli, Chris attended St. Michael's School and Llanelli Boys Grammar School before studying law at Aberystwyth University.

After qualifying as a solicitor in 1971, Chris joined the firm Ungoed Thomas and King in their Carmarthen office.

The firm went on to open an office in Tenby and Chris began his long association with the town.

On January 1, 2006, Chris and his partner Robert Jones started the firm Jones and Jones, with offices in Tenby and Narberth. The firm was recently amalgamated with Hains and Lewis.

Chris was always interested and involved with the people and community of Tenby. He was chairman of Carmarthen Round Table and hon. president of Tenby Round Table and subsequently Tenby 41 Club.

He was also an active member of the Rotary Club of Tenby, serving as president 1999-2000. One of his fellow Rotarians remembers Chris "as always good company, a great friend and a hard working Rotarian who kept the 'service before self' object to the forefront of his actions."

Chris enjoyed all sports, but rugby was his passion. In his youth, he played for Llanelli Grammar School, Aberystwyth University and Llanelli Wanderers. He was always an avid supporter of Llanelli Scarlets and travelled far and wide to support his teams.

He also enjoyed cricket and played a few years ago for his local Solicitors XI, and was proud of the trophy he won for a hat-trick in 1983.

Chris loved Pembrokeshire and enjoyed walking the coast path and exploring the countryside. His 'spins' in the car are particularly memorable to his family.

The funeral service at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, both services sympathetically conducted by the Rector, Rev. Andrew Davies.

Bearers were Chris's friends, Roland Grigg, Rob Main, Glynne Morgan, Clive Webb, Gethin Evans and Andrew Rose.

The church was full of family, friends and colleagues all paying tribute to an adored husband, father, brother and grandad and a much-loved friend and colleague.

St. Mary's was adorned with sunflowers - Chris's favourites - tall and of a sunny disposition, close friend Mrs. Ruth Webb gave a very moving eulogy, while the singing of 'Calon Lân' and 'Guide Me Oh Thou Great Redeemer' were testimony to Chris's Llanelli roots.

Principal mourners were his wife Maggie; Kirsten (daughter), her partner Bernie and granddaughter Rose; Katie (daughter); Nick (son) and his partner Nicky; Peter Jones (brother); Sue and Mike Theodoulou (sister and brother-in-law); Anna, Nina and Georgia (nieces); Richard and Brenda, Tim and Manda and Chris and Angela (step family).

There were family flowers only, but donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Cancer Research Wales or Macmillan Cancer Support, c/o funeral directors, Messrs W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd., The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, who conducted the funeral arrangements.
