Major F. Thomas
Jameston
The funeral took place recently of Major Frederick Thomas (Fred), of Jameston. He passed away peacefully at Park House Court, Tenby, on Wednesday, January 17. He was aged 95.
Fred was one of four siblings and was raised in Old Colwyn. He left school at the aged of 14 and, at 19, while employed in a munitions factory, he was called up to serve in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He quickly decided that the army was the life for him and served proudly and loyally for the next 33 years. He married his beloved wife Winnie, in May 1944, a love that, throughout his life, would not diminish. Together they travelled the world with the Royal Welch, serving as far afield as Jamaica, British Guiana, West Africa and Bahrain, plus many more postings in Germany and at home. Fred was well-respected by those who served under him and was known to be fair but firm, always treating ‘his boys’ with the respect due to them. During these years, he and Winnie raised a family, a son Tony and a daughter Sandra.
Fred retired from the army in 1974 and took on a variety of occupations before settling, at the age of 75, in Jameston. He soon became a keen member of the local community association and gave his full support to the campaign to refurbish the village hall, raising money by playing the organ at many events. Fred was an accomplished musician and always gave his time and talent freely. He will be sorely missed.
Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of 73 years, Winnie, and will be greatly missed by his children, Tony and Sandra, his grandchildren Debi, David, Fiona and Lauren, and great grandchildren Natasha, Oscar and George.
Donations in lieu of flowers for Fred may be made payable to Jameston Community Association and sent c/o John Roberts and Son, funeral directors, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

He also had success in the local shows, entering competitions with fatstock, cattle, sheep and crops.

Glanville and his brother, Melville, shared a passion in Massey Ferguson tractors. Their fleet of tractors was featured as a double page spread in the Classic Tractors magazine. Glanville enjoyed working on the land, ploughing and preparing the ground for seeding and in the summer and autumn, harvesting the crops. He was always appreciative of friends who came to help and took an interest on the farm. Glanville will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
