A conference on Managing Obesity in Primary Care was recently held in the Botanic Gardens, Carmarthen. The issue of obesity is one of increasing importance throughout the UK and is an area that is specifically targeted in government initiatives to improve the health of the nation. The conference was organised by HealthTrain (Tenby) and attracted a wide audience of practice nurses, healthcare assistants and doctors from surgeries throughout South West and Mid Wales. The day was a huge success and covered a wide range of topics related to managing obesity. Other speakers on the day included Professor Rhys Williams (clinical epidemiologist, Swansea University), Carol Brock (dietician, Neath Port Talbot), Tanis Hand and Zoe Rawles (HealthTrain), Dr. Gunnenburg (consultant pathologist, Morriston Hospital), Paul Morris (Walking the Way to Health, Pembrokeshire project leader) and Alison Pettersson (practice nurse, Cardiff).
