Members of Wiseman's Bridge Rowing Club held a celebratory party recently after completing another 'Celtic Challenge' for charity from Ireland's east coast, to Aberystwyth in 24 hours 17 minutes and 15 seconds. Club members, family and friends had all made the trip up to see the team home, which was a real boost admitted club member Nick Ryan. "At last when Aberystwyth came into view and the completion of the challenge was almost realised and with still about an hour to go, we could hear our reception committee, the largest and most vocal of all supporters there," said Nick. "Oarsome crossed the line to a tumultuous reception; there wasn't one dry eye on the boat and emotionally, physically and mentally we were spent. "Very rarely do you have chance to experience something like the Celtic Challenge and it takes a very special type of person and club to even contemplate taking it on. "I feel very privileged to have experienced it with an amazing bunch of people, none of whom I would have changed, not even for Steve Redgrave!" continued Nick, who said that the team received tremendous support from club members who helped them prepare for the race and with fundraising, and also fantastic sponsorship from Valero, Murco, the Power Station, St. Brides Hotel, Shoreline Café, Force 4 Chandlery, Cardiff, Ocean Hair, and many, many local businesses who gave raffle prizes and supported the club's fundraising. On Friday, May 16, a celebratory party was held at the club's home venue, The Wisemans Bridge Inn, where members were treated to a wonderful surprise meal to start the evening's celebrations courtesy of Mr. Kemble. "We were delighted to present the RNLI, Tenby, with a cheque for £1,927.34 - our Celtic Challenge donation which we know will be well used and give our grateful thanks for all their ongoing support with safety training for the club," he added.
