NOW's the time for the county's visitors and residents to take part in an action-packed events programme that allows people to experience and enjoy the National Park.

A host of activities and events awaits people during National Outdoor Week (NOW), taking place between May 3 and 11. These included boat trips around the islands of Skomer and Ramsey to family walks, nature watches and shoresearches. Certain events are booking essential, and places can be reserved by calling Newport Tourist Information Centre on (01239) 830912.

The programme of events for National Outdoor Week includes:

Sunday, May 4: Family coastal walk, 2-5 pm. Angle, Farmers and fortifications. A four-mile walk in an area steeped in the histories of farmers and fighting men. Start West Angle car park (SM 855033). Leader: Holly Harries.

Inland walk, 2-5 pm. Newport, Carn Ingli - Mount of Angels. Experience the magic of Carn Ingli on a three-mile circular ramble with panoramic views of coast and hills. Wear sturdy footwear. Start Bedd Morris (SN 038365). Leader: Richard Sales.

Family shoresearch, 2-4 pm. Tenby, Sea gems and surprises beneath St. Catherine's Island. A world of wonder awaits when you join this seashore ramble! Wear wellies or jellies and bring a torch. Start Tenby South Beach by St. Catherine's Island (SN 137004). Leader: Mick Brown.

Monday, May 5: Family nature watch, 10 am - 12.30 pm. Bosherston, Wildlife, water and wings. Two-mile ramble around Bosherston Lily Pools and Stackpole National Nature Reserve. Wear sturdy footwear. No dogs. Start Bosherston car park (SR 966948). Leader: Jack Rogers.

Family fun day, 10 am - 4 pm. Lydstep Beach, Lydstep beach bonanza. Action-packed adventure (courtesy of Bourne Leisure) with puppets, art and craft activities, parachute games and rockpool rambles. Donations welcomed. Held Lydstep beach (SS 090980). Leaders: National Park staff.

Range walk, 10.30 am - 4.30 pm. Castlemartin, Birds, bugs and blooms. A six-mile ramble featuring coastal scenery and sheltered valleys, interesting beasties and beauties. Minimum age 11. No dogs. Booking essential on (01239) 820912. Meet Merrion Camp car park (SR 939969). Leaders: Bob Haycock and Annie Poole.

Family inland walk, 2-4 pm. St. David's, City walk. A one-mile stroll around Britain's smallest city discovering some relics from the past and hearing a few stories to go with them. Meet St. David's Visitor Centre (SM 756252). Leader: Diane Alwyn.

Tuesday, May 6: Evening boat trip, 7-9 pm. Skomer, Seabird spectacular. See thousands of puffins, razorbills and many other seabirds around Skomer Island. Wear warm clothing. Booking essential on (01239) 820912. Start Martins Haven (SM 760089). Leader: Steve/Anna Sutcliffe.

Wednesday, May 7: Evening boat trip, 7-9 pm. Ramsey, Ramsey Sound spectacular. See hosts of razorbills, guillemots, kittewakes, fulmars, other seabirds and marine life around Ramsey Island. Wear warm clothing. Booking essential on (01239) 820912. Meet St. Justinian's car park (SM 724252). Leader: Ian Meopham.

Friday, May 9: Evening boat trip, 7-9 pm. Skomer, Seabird spectacular. See thousands of puffins, razorbills and many other seabirds around Skomer Island. Wear warm clothing. Booking essential on (01239) 820912. Start Martins Haven (SM 760089). Leader: Annie Poole.

Sunday, May 11: Family coastal walk, 2-5 pm. Penally, Marvellous marshes, dunes and coastal slopes. A three-mile nature ramble where the land meets the sea - and all is not as it seems! Sturdy footwear advisable. Start Penally Railway Station car park (SS 118991). Leader: Mike Brown.
