Pembrokeshire's Children's Traffic Club has celebrated its third birthday. The club, which teaches young children how to stay safe when out walking, playing or travelling in cars and buses, marked its anniversary with a party in the Early Years Unit at Spittal School. Clr. Jamie Adams, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said the club was supported by the county council as a proven accident prevention programme for pre-school children - three to four and a half year-olds. "Funding from the Welsh Assembly Government has allowed us to provide all young children in the county free membership to the club," he said. "The message is then reinforced at playgroup, nursery or early years through the Children's Traffic Club Nursery packs." All children receive invitations to join the Children's Traffic Club from Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust health visitors at their third birthday health check-up or from their local play group, nursery or Early Years Unit. Once parents have registered, their child will receive their first book, followed by books every three months. "Road accidents are the biggest single cause of accidental deaths and injuries to children and Pembrokeshire's County Council is committed to help reduce the large number of children who get hurt on our roads every day," said Clr. Adams.
