Following support from a number of locals, the licensees of Tenby's Three Mariners Inn, Keith and Lisa May, have launched a campaign of their own in response to a petition circulating objecting to their late licensing hours. As reported in a recent edition of the Observer, a number of residents and business people in St. George Street, St. Mary's Street and The Paragon had signed a petition backing the town's police chief, Inspector Les Clark, in his objections to the renewal of the pub's public entertainment licence and extended hours of trading. The objections were made at a meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing sub-committee at County Hall, Haverfordwest, and led to a decision to cut the hours of the St. George Street premises. Now licensees Mr. and Mrs. May, who are appealing against this decision, have hit back at their critics and hope that their petition will show the overwhelming public support there is for their establishment. "We know that there is a petition circulating objecting to us renewing our late licence, but we'd just like to thank all the many, many local people who have written letters of support to us," said Mr. May. "It's been really nice to see people making a real effort to back us, so as a result of all the support, we've launched a petition of our own, which people supporting us can sign at the pub. "We're pleased to say that we've already had hundreds of signatures and we will be forwarding the petition to Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing authority and hope that people will continue to write letters supporting us to PCC and to ourselves," added Mr. May.
