A new community safety partnership initiative called 'Not In My Neighbourhood' will be launched in Pembrokeshire next month.
A week-long programme of high-profile events is being planned from Monday, October 15, to the following Sunday, to demonstrate what's being done to tackle crime in local communities.
"Pembrokeshire has never organised an event on this scale before and the campaign is an excellent opportunity for local agencies to demonstrate to local people the work being done in the area to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and drug and alcohol misuse," said PC Sue Blacklaw-Jones.
"The initiative has been fully embraced by a huge amount of local agencies, with Pembrokeshire County Council, and their education and licensing departments, National Parks, Princes Trust, the army, PAVS, and local schools and youth groups all getting involved already, along with many others. "We hope that many volunteers in the community will come forward beforehand and on the day to help, and also hope that local buinesses may be able to help out in supplying equipment and refreshments where needed for the events," added PC Blacklaw-Jones.
Five 'clean-up' days are being planned for areas in the county, with venues in the process of being chosen to hold roadshows, featuring amongst other items education stalls. The 'clean-up' days in Tenby and Saundersfoot are expected to be held on Wednesday, October 17, with locations scheduled to be announced next week.
Problem locations such as areas that have been hit by graffitti or vandalism are being identified in each community and it is hoped that during the day a clean-up can be carried out as part of the scheme. Anyone wishing to get involved with the 'Not In My Neighbourhood' can contact PC Sue Blacklaw-Jones or Pembrokeshire's police division press officer, Ceri Doyle, on 01437 769 669.
