Sir,

I suspect that the proposed Serpentine Road traffic management scheme is more a public relations exercise of being seen to be doing something rather than a realistic solution to the traffic problems in the area.

In addition, I fear it has the potential of creating traffic accident hot spots at Serpentine Road junction with The Maudlins and at Heywood Lane junction with The Maudlins.

The off-street parking that has been created in Serpentine Road is an improvement provided that there is no parallel on road parking - just for a moment whilst I pick up little Johnny or Jane.

The problem area is Heywood Lane between Serpentine Road and Oakridge Acres, where the road for the most part is too narrow to merit a central diving line and at the start and end of each school day is obstructed by parked cars - again often double-parked just for a moment!

May I suggest that a more viable solution would be to make Heywood Lane one-way traffic from the junction with Serpentine Road.

Traffic would flow more easily and there would be less danger to children in the immediate vicinity of the school.

I agree that the hotel proprietors in Heywood Lane might find it slightly inconvenient, but this would be more than balanced by the safer egress from their hotels for their residents.

The main problem would, of course, be egress from the Tenby United Football Field, but this could be overcome by creating a new exit joining Heywood Lane approximately opposite the entrance to Oakridge Acres.

Such an exit would be a vast improvement on the present arrangement. Yes, there is a financial consideration, but I am sure that with some serious motivation the funds could be found.

John H. T. Griffiths,

Tenby.
