The summer Carmarthen Antiques and Collectors' Fair comes a little earlier this year when Wales' favourite antiques fair sets up again at the United Counties Showground, Carmarthen on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10. Furniture is a strong feature of the fair, with examples from 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. From formal Georgian mahogany to traditional Welsh oak and pine, as well as increasingly popular Arts and Crafts designs, the Carmarthen fair offers well- presented pieces ready to take home and use, and many dealers offer a delivery service for larger furniture purchases. Those in the know also go just to look for original and unusual ideas to enhance their home and can choose from a wonderful selection of watercolour and oil paintings, prints, glassware, cutlery and other tableware, kitchenalia and textiles, or to seek out that special gift among the fabulous range of jewellery on offer. It is the great variety of goods on offer which keeps both private and trade buyers going back time after time. The fair also showcases some intriguing bygones with its dealers who specialise in the more unusual fields of collecting. Here nostalgia is the name of the game. Collectors and enthusiasts can browse among old nautical and fishing items, sporting memorabilia, dolls and toys, postcards, rural artefacts, Welsh blankets and quilts, maps, and commemorative items. A recent newcomer to the Carmarthen fair specialises in film memorabilia and offers a stunning range of film posters from £5 to £500. While some of the posters are such striking 1975 classic Jaws, who can resist the unmistakable post- war artwork which evokes (in those of a certain age) an altogether more romantic and innocent time of Saturday morning matinees and truly glamorous film stars? The Carmarthen Antiques and Collectors Fair takes place at the United Counties Showground, Carmarthen on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10. All stands are indoors and parking is free and plentiful.
