Tenby's North Beach promenade was the setting for the recent Ty Hafan 'Zip-glide Challenge', which raised £17,000 for the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice in Wales. Onlookers were amazed to see the 180 entrants sailing over their heads on Tenby's North Beach, during the two-day event, sponsored by Nolan uPVC and Texaco. Among them were people from far and wide, including a coachload from Merthyr and Co-op employees from Ammanford! Sponsored entrants took on the challenge of gliding down a 200-metre wire tethered at one end to the 170-foot high promenade and at the other end to the Goscar Rock. Young and the old alike allowed themselves to glide at speed down the wire, before being lowered by pulley onto the beach - and although not for the faint-hearted, every single 'glider' wanted to do it again! The event manager and regional appeals organiser for Ty- Hafan, Robert Taylor, was delighted with the response. "Everyone had a fantastic time and everyone has been asking when the next glide will be. The weather was great over the two days and we enjoyed a real party atmosphere. We are definitely thinking of holding another glide - so watch this space!" Adrian Phillips, national sales manager for Nolan uPVC, was one of the participants and raved about the experience. "Next time I want it faster and longer," he said. A big thank you goes to everyone who took part and all those many more who turned up to watch!
