The Normandie Inn, a former coaching inn built into Tenby's town walls, has been sold through the Bristol office of licensed property agents, Christie and Co.

The attractive Grade II Listed inn, which dates back to 1810, was offered to the market at a freehold asking price of £995,000 and sold for an undisclosed figure.

Proprietors Mr. and Mrs. Steven Hawthorne are leaving the licensed trade after more than 10 successful years at the Normandie Inn and have sold the business to experienced local operators, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Warren, who already run Penally Abbey, Penally.

The substantial, three-storey property briefly comprises lounge, public and rear bars, games room, 30-cover restaurant, seven three-star rated en suite letting bedrooms and two-bedroom owner's accommodation. It has been beautifully refurbished with a contemporary look while retaining its character features.

The inn has a Georgian façade with frontage onto Upper Frog Street, but the rear of the property, which has an entrance onto South Parade, incorporates the old town walls and part of the former castle courtyard, where the sound of horses' hooves is said to still be heard.

Matthew Smith, associate director of Christie and Co's Bristol office, said: "The Normandie Inn enjoys a strong local following and a seasonal boost from tourism.

The new owners, with their local knowledge and experience of hospitality industry, are ideally placed to maintain and enhance the excellent trade at the Normandie Inn."
