To kick-off their Wonder Women project, Span Arts, are asking for your help. The community arts charity based in Narberth are asking the people of Pembrokeshire to nominate their ‘Wonder Women’. They are looking for women who have changed the world at a local, national and international level.

So far, nominations have included a diverse range of characters. A local favourite is Jemima Nicholas or Jemima Fawr, the notorious Welsh heroine of the 1797 Battle of Fishguard. An illustrious panel of judges will select a shortlist which will be offered up for a public vote in early June.

The winning woman in each category will be immortalised in a giant puppet which will lead her tribe of followers around the streets at the head of the Narberth Carnival procession at the end of Civic Week on July 28. Several community groups will have the opportunity to work with talented puppet maker Di Ford to bring these inspirational women to life, it will be no mean feat to construct these Wonder Women giants.

The vote will be conducted on Facebook facebook/spanarts in the coming weeks with the results being announced a week later. There will be a series of free public workshops during Narberth Civic Week in the run up to the carnival where participants will have the chance to make extravagant Carnival Headdresses and Wonder Women Wander Wands to join in the procession on July 28.
