If you would like to discover more about the nocturnal goings-on of some of Pembroke's residents, then join the team from Pembrokeshire Bat Group and Pembroke 21C who will be out studying the spectacular number of bats at the town's Millpond on Wednesday, September 26. Using bat detectors, the team are able to listen to the bats' chatter as they echo-locate to home-in on their insect food supply. The detectors also allow the user to interpret what species are present. To date, the group have recorded pipistrelle, noctule and Daubenton's bats at the Millpond. The Daubenton bats put on an impressive aeronautical display as they fly down and take insects from the water surface.

Dr. Robin Crump, chairman of Pembrokeshire Bat Group, is leading the event and with his colleague, David Harries, will be able to explain about these fascinating animals.

The team have been studying the bat activity at Pembroke Millponds and Holyland Wood for the last two years as part of a three-year project which has been funded by Countryside Council for Wales Species Challenge Fund.

The event is free of charge. Places are limited and, therefore, booking is essential. To reserve your place, contact Pembroke 21C, tel. 01646 680090, or email [email protected]">[email protected]
