Sir,
Re. your letter from Malcolm Calver, 'How long before you're a local?', printed on October 17, I couldn't agree more.
I would also like to ask the same question to whatever body concerned.
I have lived here personally for 30 years and know that I am not classed as local. Because I have a faint trace left of an accent, everyone I meet asks me where I am from. I find this very annoying, as I would love to say Tenby, but I can't, because not being born here, I'm not classified as local.
I have not been back to visit my city of birth for 22 years and have no wish to. Tenby has had my heart, from the first moment I saw it.
I was not lucky enough to be born here. Where you are born isn't your choice, but I would like to say that I don't care who they are, nobody could love Tenby more than I do and I chose this place with my heart and soul and I would dearly love to be called local.
My son was born here, he's local. He is in university at the moment, but when he is finished he won't be able to come back - he wants a good job and the city is the only place to find it.
But as Malcolm Calver said, in the future if he does come back, will he be classed as local then?
