Although they had beaten South Wales Police the previous week, Maesteg had no answer to a Whitland outfit firing on all cylinders on Saturday, with the Borderers handing out a 52 points to nil drubbing at Parc Ty Gwyn.

Clocking up two in a row out of the opening two games of this year's National League divsion two season, the Green and Whites got off to a dream start when Scott Eggar touched down for a try, converted by Daniel Griffiths, after just four minutes, and they raced to a virtually unassailable 26-0 interval lead.

With the pack working well as a unit to provide the possession for skipper Rob Phillips to dictate from the scrum-half berth, the Borderers seized every opportunity to run the ball and rattled the Old Parish with another try in the 23rd minute when Richard Harries squeezed over in the corner and Griffiths again added the extras.

There was no let up for Maesteg, with flanker Steve Parsons claiming the homesters' third try after lock Dai Ebsworth laid the groundwork and Griffiths again slotted home the conversion.

On the stroke of half-time, Gareth Williams made it four when he raced through near the posts, but this time Griffiths was off target with the conversion.

Although the Borderers dominated as a team, the second half surely belonged to powerful Tongan flanker Johnnie Kalloi who grabbed a hat-trick of touchdowns in only his second outing for the club.

The first came just two minutes after the change around, with the second just 13 minutes later.

Griffiths converted both, but was less successful when centre Nick Jackson received quick ball from a lineout and burst through the Old Parish defence.

However, the stand-off made amends when he carved his way through from a scrum and the supporting Kalloi rounded off to pick up his third try.

Griffiths landed his sixth successful conversion with the last kick of the game.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Whitland travel to Llanstrisant.

Whitland fielded: Wayne Lewis, Eifion Lewis, Nolan Goodman, Nick Jackson, Richard Harries, Daniel Griffiths, Rob Phillips (capt.), Gareth Williams, Steve Gerrard, Dai Jones, Steve Thomas, Dai Ebsworth, Johnnie Kalloi, Steve Parsons, Scott Eggar.
